Welcome to

P.N.E.U School!

P.N.E.U School  – Parents’ National Educational Union School is an Anglo-Saxon Nursery and Primary institution of education based in Etoug-ebe, Yaoundé, Cameroon. Our focus is to create an environment that is the breeding ground for the next generation of forward-looking and innovative leaders.

Our History

British Colonial Civil Servants, Shop-keepers, and Plantation Managers in India, Nigeria, The Gold Coast, The Gambia, The Cameroons, The West Indies, Sudan, etc, experienced considerable difficulties ensuring regular schooling for their children. Those of them who could afford it sent the children to attend school back home in Great Britain. The majority of them organized classes for these children in their localities and their wives took turns to deliver lessons.

However, most of these ladies were not professional teachers and they required a lot of guidance so the Parents’ National Educational Union was born. It is an organization set up in London in those times to offer professional services in Nursery and primary school education to parents who organized to teach their children themselves.

The organization achieved considerable success and it continues to exist even though most of the colonies have gained independence. Actually, before the British left Cameroon on independence, they had to set up a full-fledged nursery and primary school in Bota, Limbe, and the school has continued to be a popular establishment for English-speaking families in Limbe and Buea.

In September 1977, 15 families came together to organize classes for their children as there was no primary school for English-speaking Cameroonian children in Yaounde at that time, and the only primary school for them had classes that were so over-crowded that only the bright children were able to follow the lessons properly. Some classes had as many as 90 children for one teacher. With 29 kids, 3 to 11 years of age, the P.N.E.U school in Yaounde was inaugurated in September 1977.

In view of the consistently high achievements of the school over the years, the Ministry of National Education has, with effect from the 1988/89 Academic year approved it as a Special School
